|The course is designed preferably for adults (from around age twenty) who already have some knowledge of French. School level French is a suitable basis as Anne can help you very effectively to brush it up, as much as can be done in a week. You can situate your level of French by the self-assessment grid established by the European language board: the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL)
However, total beginners would be welcome too, although for them, one week would not be quite sufficient to really start off on the new language. A different course can be tailored for you on demand.
Usually the course is run on a one to one basis (one to two can work as well). This ensures that you get the closest attention possible. The contents of the course are adapted to different levels of fluency. Those who want to feel at ease in conversing in French a little above simple survival French and those who are studying French at university will find this course most profitable. You can ask to be trained specially in the perspective of one of the DELF exams.
Over the period of a week, Anne will help you to build up your confidence in speaking whatever French you know already, expand your vocabulary, mastering grammatical stumbling blocks and understanding how to sound more authentically French by constant work on accent reduction. For this, the student will accept immediate corrections from the teacher whose job it is to weed out all bad language habits and wrong pronunciation. Reading aloud, repeating and even acting, with exaggerated intonations (much fun!) help you to reach the right note. Remember: speaking a different language is like becoming someone else, someone more! And at dinner time, you will have the opportunity to speak with different French guests. Drinking wine will help greatly (if you so wish)!
The course will be profitable too for those of you who enjoy the beauty of a language for its own sake or those who welcome a good opportunity to train their memory in a pleasant and useful way.
You will arrive on Sunday afternoon or evening as the course itself starts on Monday mornings at 9.15 am and ends on the following Friday evenings. It provides two lessons in the morning, with coffee break, and one in the afternoon.
The programme offers four afternoon excursions to discover the beautiful region of Languedoc, including vineyards and wine tasting. These excursions are designed to complement the formal lessons. You will be accompanied by your teacher so that the communication in French can continue all day long. But you may also want to go shopping on your own one day, if only to buy your still hot morning “baguette” from the village ” boulangerie”.
The residential week starts on the Sunday afternoon, with the pick-up of arrivals from the train station in Montpellier or Sète or from the airport in Montpellier or Béziers. Some guests prefer to arrive in their private car. The first evening is for settling in, getting to know you, enjoy a nice dinner, and have a brief presentation of the week to come. French immersion commences immediately!
